Upgrading dental treatment room lighting from fluorescent to full daylight spectrum LED
At Ihr City Zahnarzt in Hamm, Germany, Dr. Amir Muratagic and Bert J. Balder wanted to improve the lighting in their dental treatment rooms. The practice, located at Westentor 4 in the centre of Hamm, was still using conventional fluorescent lighting in the treatment rooms.
After researching professional lighting solutions for dental practices, they discovered DentLED Full Daylight Spectrum Lighting and decided to upgrade the treatment rooms with DentLED PHL22 luminaires.
The challenge: more light for large dental treatment rooms
The existing fluorescent lighting did not provide the level and distribution of light required by the dentists. Because the treatment rooms at Ihr City Zahnarzt are relatively large, sufficient light output and an even distribution of light throughout the working environment were important considerations.
DentLED therefore developed a configuration using four PHL22 full daylight spectrum luminaires per treatment room.
Each PHL22 is a 2.24-metre bidirectional luminaire, providing both direct and indirect light. This configuration creates a high level of illumination around the dental chair while also distributing light throughout the treatment room.
From fluorescent lighting to full daylight spectrum lighting
Replacing conventional fluorescent lighting with DentLED full daylight spectrum lighting represented a substantial change in the working environment.
The PHL22 luminaires combine high light output with a high colour rendering index and a daylight spectrum designed for professional working environments. For dental professionals who spend many hours working under artificial light, the objective is not simply to make the room brighter, but to create a more evenly illuminated and visually comfortable workplace.
Following installation, Dr. Muratagic and Bert J. Balder reported a clear improvement compared with their previous lighting, particularly in the brightness and overall quality of the light in the treatment rooms.

The project at Ihr City Zahnarzt demonstrates how an existing dental practice can upgrade from fluorescent lighting to modern full daylight spectrum LED lighting without redesigning the entire treatment room.
For larger dental treatment rooms, the combination of multiple bidirectional PHL22 luminaires provides both the high light levels required around the dental chair and a more even distribution of light throughout the room.
