Dental treatment room lighting project:
Summary: Custom LED photo ceilings created for Zahnflow dental practice in Heiligenhaus, combining dentist-selected images with full daylight spectrum lighting to create attractive and functional treatment rooms.
Client: Zahnflow – Zahnarztpraxis Dr. Heike Meier
DentLed lighting used: DentLed LED Photo Panels and DentLed Full Daylight Spectrum LED Panels
For the new treatment rooms at Zahnflow – Zahnarztpraxis Dr. Heike Meier in Heiligenhaus, Germany, DentLed supplied a combination of custom LED photo ceiling panels and full daylight spectrum LED lighting.
The objective was to combine professional workplace lighting for the dental team with an attractive ceiling design for patients.
The result is a series of individually designed illuminated photo ceilings integrated into the treatment rooms, combined with DentLed full daylight spectrum panels for the general and professional lighting of the rooms.
Individual photo ceilings using the dentist’s own images
An important feature of this project was the use of Dr. Heike Meier’s own selected images rather than standard photo ceiling designs.
Four different photographs were selected for the treatment rooms. DentLed worked with the original image files and prepared them specifically for the dimensions and configuration of the LED photo panels.
This included adjusting the crop and aspect ratio and making subtle corrections to brightness, exposure, colour saturation and sharpness where required.
The original photographs had sufficient resolution for large-format printing, allowing them to be transformed into illuminated ceiling images while maintaining good image quality.
The result is a different visual identity for each treatment room.
Photo ceiling and distraction panels above the dental chair
Dental patients spend a considerable part of many treatments looking upwards. This makes the ceiling directly above and around the dental chair an interesting area for interior design.
An illuminated photo ceiling or distraction ceiling can replace a plain ceiling surface with a landscape, nature scene, sky, underwater image or another design selected by the dental practice.
These systems are also described as dental distraction panels, LED photo panels, sky panels, skylight panels, illuminated ceiling images or light ceilings.
At Zahnflow, the photo ceilings form an integral part of the design of the new treatment rooms rather than being added as a separate decorative element.
Combining photo ceilings with full daylight spectrum dental lighting
The photo panels and workplace lighting perform different functions but can be integrated into the same ceiling.
The DentLed photo ceiling panels provide the illuminated images and visual element, while the DentLed full daylight spectrum panels provide the primary general and workplace illumination required in the treatment room.
This makes it possible to create an attractive ceiling without compromising the functional lighting requirements of the dentist and dental team.
Advantages of full daylight spectrum lighting for dentists
DentLed full daylight spectrum lighting is designed to provide bright and uniform illumination around the dental workplace.
Key advantages include:
- High colour rendering: supports accurate perception of teeth, soft tissue and dental materials.
- Daylight-like spectrum: creates a more natural visual working environment.
- High illumination levels: helps provide sufficient general lighting around the dental chair and treatment area.
- Flicker-free LED lighting: designed to improve visual comfort during prolonged clinical work.
- Low-glare lighting: helps limit unnecessary visual discomfort.
- Uniform room illumination: reduces large differences between the brightly illuminated oral cavity and the surrounding treatment room.
- Professional workplace lighting: developed specifically with the visual requirements of dental treatment rooms in mind.
Your own photographs as a dental photo ceiling
A DentLed photo ceiling does not have to use an image from a standard image library.
Dental practices can provide their own photographs, artwork or designs, provided that the source material has sufficient resolution and quality for the intended installation.
DentLed can assist with:
- Checking image resolution and suitability
- Selecting the best crop
- Adapting the image to the dimensions of the photo ceiling
- Dividing an image across multiple ceiling panels
- Adjusting brightness, exposure and colour
- Optimising sharpness where appropriate
- Preparing the final files for large-format printing
This gives dental practices considerable freedom to create a photo ceiling that fits their own interior design and identity.
