Full spectrum lighting for the dental sterilisation room

The sterilisation room is an important working area within the dental practice. Good, uniform lighting supports the visual inspection of instruments and provides a bright, comfortable working environment throughout the daily sterilisation workflow.

Dentled full daylight spectrum lighting combines a high level of illumination with excellent colour rendering. With 5000 K, CRI 98+ and a high R9 value, it creates bright, natural-looking light that matches the professional lighting used in the treatment rooms.

Good lighting where the work takes place

In the sterilisation room, it is not only the general level of illumination that matters. Sufficient and uniform lighting on the worktops is particularly important for clearly seeing and inspecting instruments.

Depending on the room and the activities performed, we consider:

  • illumination levels on the worktops;
  • uniform distribution of light;
  • excellent colour rendering;
  • low glare;
  • flicker-free lighting;
  • the position of equipment, cabinets and working zones.

As a guideline, approximately 500 lux can be used for general illumination. For working areas where detailed visual inspection takes place, a higher illumination level of approximately 750–1,000 lux may be desirable.

Full daylight spectrum – 5000 K

For professional working areas within a dental practice, Dentled uses 5000 K full daylight spectrum lighting.

The high colour rendering ensures that instruments, materials and surfaces can be seen clearly and naturally. Using the same quality of light in treatment rooms and other staff working areas also creates a consistent lighting environment throughout the practice.

General lighting and task lighting

A well-designed sterilisation room often requires a combination of general lighting and dedicated task lighting.

Ceiling lighting provides a uniform level of illumination throughout the room. A higher level of light can then be provided over areas used for cleaning, inspection and preparation.

For this reason, our lighting plans are based not only on the size of the room, but also on the position of the worktops, equipment and workflow.

Different solutions, one quality of light

Different sterilisation rooms require different lighting solutions. The type of ceiling, dimensions of the room and layout of the worktops all influence the choice of luminaires.

Dentled DL60 / DL62

The Dentled DL60 and DL62 full spectrum LED panels are an ideal solution for sterilisation rooms with suspended ceilings.

The panels can be positioned across the room and above working zones to create uniform illumination. They are also a practical solution when replacing existing fluorescent luminaires or standard LED panels.

Dentled DL120

For long worktops or elongated sterilisation rooms, the Dentled DL120 can provide an effective lighting solution.

Positioning the linear luminaires in line with the worktops helps create uniform illumination across the complete working area.

Depending on the ceiling construction, the DL120 can be integrated into the ceiling or surface-mounted.

Dentled PHL18 / PHL22

For larger sterilisation rooms or spaces with solid ceilings, Dentled PHL18 and PHL22 direct/indirect luminaires provide another solution.

Direct light illuminates the working area, while indirect light illuminates the ceiling. This combination creates a bright, balanced and comfortable lighting environment throughout the room.

One lighting environment throughout the staff workflow

In larger dental practices and clinics, the sterilisation room is part of the daily staff workflow. Team members continuously move between:

Treatment room → corridor → sterilisation room → storage room → treatment room

For this reason, a Dentled lighting plan can extend beyond the individual rooms and consider the complete staff circulation within the practice.

Using the same 5000 K colour temperature and high-quality light in treatment rooms, staff corridors, sterilisation rooms and storage areas creates a consistent lighting environment.

This also supports the handling of instruments. From use in the treatment room to transportation, inspection, processing and storage, instruments remain clearly visible under bright, natural-looking light.

Replacing existing lighting

The lighting in an existing sterilisation room can often be improved relatively easily.

In suspended ceilings, existing fluorescent luminaires or standard LED panels can often be replaced with Dentled full spectrum LED panels. For solid ceilings, surface-mounted, suspended or direct/indirect lighting solutions can be used.

Rather than simply following the position of existing electrical connections, we look at the location of the worktops and the actual workflow within the room.

Lighting plan for your sterilisation room

Every sterilisation room is different. Send us a floor plan or photographs together with the room dimensions, ceiling height and position of the worktops.

We can then advise on the most suitable Dentled luminaires, quantities and positioning.

For larger dental practices, we can also include the complete staff workflow in the lighting plan: treatment rooms, corridors, sterilisation room and storage areas.
