Dental laboratory lighting project:
Summary: DentLed designed and installed a custom full-spectrum daylight lighting solution for the newly built dental laboratory at Zahnzentrum Viersen, Germany. To support precision dental manufacturing, implantology, and digital dentistry workflows, a bespoke T-shaped luminaire was developed for the attic laboratory with its challenging sloped ceiling layout. The system delivers 5000K daylight illumination with an exceptional CRI of 98.6, providing accurate colour rendering and visual clarity for detailed laboratory work.
Client: Dr. med. dent. Denis Depenau-Babic M.Sc
DentLed lighting used: Dentled Daylight LED Luminaires
For Zahnzentrum Viersen in Germany, DentLed developed a custom full daylight spectrum lighting solution for a newly built dental laboratory. The laboratory is part of the dental practice of Dr. med. dent. Denis Depenau-Babic M.Sc. and supports advanced dental workflows, including implantology, digital dentistry and precision dental manufacturing.
This project was not a standard treatment room installation. The challenge was to create a bright, balanced and natural lighting environment for detailed laboratory work in an attic workspace with a sloped ceiling.
Key aspects of the project
- Lighting for a modern dental laboratory
- Full daylight spectrum LED lighting at 5000K
- High colour rendering with CRI 98.6
- Custom T-shaped luminaire for the specific room layout
- Bi-directional lighting: direct and indirect illumination
- Project location: Zahnzentrum Viersen, Germany
- Designed for precision work, implantology and digital dental workflows
- Homogeneous light distribution to reduce shadows and visual fatigue
The dental laboratory lighting challenge
Dental laboratories require lighting that supports visual precision. When working with dental materials, implant components, models and digital workflows, small differences in shape, surface detail and colour can be important. In this project, the room geometry also played a role: the laboratory is located in an attic space with a sloped ceiling and workbenches positioned along the walls.
A standard lighting layout would not have provided the right balance of direct work light and general room illumination.
Custom full spectrum lighting solution
DentLed designed and supplied a custom T-shaped luminaire in full daylight spectrum light. The lighting has a colour temperature of 5000K and a CRI of 98.6, which supports accurate colour perception and detailed visual work.
The T-shaped configuration follows the layout of the room: one section runs along the length of the attic, while the cross section provides additional light above the workbench area at the far end of the laboratory.
Bi-directional light for even illumination
The luminaire is bi-directional, meaning it emits light directly downward onto the work surfaces and indirectly upward via the ceiling. This creates a more homogeneous lighting environment than direct-only lighting.
The indirect component helps soften contrasts and reduce unwanted shadows. This is especially relevant in a dental laboratory, where technicians and clinicians often perform detailed work for longer periods of time.
Result
The result is a bright, natural and functional dental laboratory with full daylight spectrum lighting tailored to the workspace. The custom T-shaped solution supports precision work, visual comfort and the high standards required for implantology, digital dentistry and modern dental laboratory procedures.
This project demonstrates how full daylight spectrum lighting can be applied beyond the dental treatment room, especially in laboratories where accuracy, colour perception and visual comfort are essential.
